Cultural Coalition

Individuals are not born to a reality that had not exceeded in content through different phases of development, but to a reality that has a history of cause and effect, founded on the interaction between different humans and their consciousness. The ordinary perception of reality is placed in the physical world that surrounds the consciousness, when in fact if we consider this more closely, we find the emptiness of all the buildings and constructions without the presence humans, therefore bringing out the fact that it is the living and the heritage from our ancestors that produce that which we call as the reality.

As a heritage, we have such representational entities as the laws of nature in physics, society systems different from each other depending on the place of birth, systems of thought like existentialism, laws integrated to the society systems, words and their definitions, all of the content of the different cultural realities, constructed of representations, and as our sense of reality is representational, the reality as we know it is highly dynamic when compared with the stuffy reality of non-living matter and energy, because we can combine and recombine the components of the representational reality with the power of our thought, but of course within the limits of our cognitive abilities. Representational reality as it is now in its combination is for example the cause of the lack of equality between humans, the cause of wars as the reality is divided by the sense of nationality, producing coalitions, co-existing coalitions, competing coalitions, and counter coalitions, sorrowful hunger in the third world countries, and racism, and the capacity of the mass mind in its current condition is also used for information that has little or non value for the life of a mortal.

When we are born to this world, we automatically start to adapt to the reality, and our sense of reality becomes conditioned with knowledge as we internalize the contemporary state of the representational reality, including the spiritual and scientific realisms, the representational world that extends beyond the innate nature and the physical reality as it is, surrounding the consciousness and living bodies. When considering the nature of this reality, and the heritage that is left behind, the true power a human can have is in the words and in the truth. There is, of course, physical strength, but it is from knowledge that we gain our sense of reality, and if we were to deceive our descendants to live in an illusionary state of being, with the level of ethics and the functions of society that cause them to carry the same pains that characterize our era, it would either be a continuation or production of a representational nightmare. When all these are added up, and as the life in clarity is only in the level of truths understandable for the contemporary level of thought in humanity, it becomes obvious that the spread of truth inside the mass mind is the most valuable heritage. When the increasing complexity of the reality in the level of representations is in relativity with truths, and when we build our societies to be in correlation with the level of development of the ethical understanding of human existence, the more they dominate the reality that compose together the humane foundations of the world of humanity.

The purpose of culture (any culture) is to teach people how to “see” the world. More specifically, organizational culture is created, reinforced, promulgated, and maintained through the powerful See-Do-Get Process® where managers and staff members are “taught” how to see themselves, other people, and the world around them. For example, a customer (Curt) walks into a store and a new sales person (Sarah) and her manager (Jeff) are standing at the register checking an order. Jeff comments quietly to Sarah, “He always gives us a hard time”, so they ignore him, trying to avoid conflict. Curt reads this emotional message in their behavior and actually feels ignored. After a few minutes of just standing around, Curt snaps critically, “Hey, young lady! I need some help over here!” Sarah looks at Jeff and thinks to herself,

See – You said he’d give me a hard time!

The See-Do-Get Process® is a way of describing how our knowledge and beliefs are shaped by how we see ourselves, others, and the world around us. As in the above example, people like Sarah are actively taught by her manager Jeff how to “see” the world in the hope that her behaviors and attitudes will become consistent with Jeff’s view of Curt, e.g. that Sarah will internalize how Jeff sees Curt and act in ways that are consistent with his belief. The four steps below show how the See-Do-Get Process® works.

* Step 1 (See): Jeff tries to teach Sarah to “see” Curt as someone who is going to give her a hard time.
* Step 2 (Do): Behaviors and attitudes naturally flow from Sarah and Jeff’s way of seeing and their attempts to avoid Curt send him a subtle (but profound) message.
* Step 3 (Get): Curt picks up on their message because 55% of communication is body language and 38% is tone of voice, and he responds in ways that reinforce the way they see him, e.g. he demands that they pay attention to him.
* Step 4 (See): Jeff’s original prediction to Sarah is confirmed empirically and this way of “seeing” Curt becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy – the way it is.

Over time a pattern of interaction forms between Jeff, Sarah, and Curt which solidifies and becomes entrenched. Recounting this and similar situations in weekly operation meetings teaches Jeff’s entire staff of sales people how to “see” Curt and similar customers. Within six months, sales begin to decline and Jeff and his managers can’t figure out why.

Think about it – managers come to see employees as lazy. Employees in that same organization learn to see top managers as out of touch with the day-to-day realities of running the business. The R&D Department sees the Sales Department as incompetent. The Marketing Department sees the Sales Department as too short-term focused. You see your boss as a moron, and then wonder why she never gives you more interesting projects. As civilizations are built over civilizations, development grow further from already developed platforms, the constancy of birth of new generations are born daily into a more developed world within the developed nations, for now comprehensible reasons the persistent existence of war still plagues humanity.

When looking back to the history of mankind, the appearance of the ancient humans encapsulate something of a magical kind around them. In relativity with the scientific realism, the amount of fantasy included to the natural phenomena make the mystical hunting experts and survivalists in the past even more mysterious, with brains relatively the same in design and although we perceive the history in light of war and crusade ridden manner, we know but little of the daily lives and conversations they had with each other outside the written barbarism.

Considering the level of knowledge, and ethical development, one cannot accuse the humans of the past, when the birth of written language or languages in general were still in their sprout stages, of the for us unethical conduct of behavior. The realm as it was for them has altered as the cultural continuums have moved forwards in development, one of the laws of it being that whatever development had been made, the birth of new generations faced a different kind of world in relativity with their sense of reality was conditioned. It is also natural why the ancient hunter gatherers and their descendants who later inhabited most of the existing continents became in separate locations cultures of their own with distinctive values and languages, but as we exist in the now contemporary phase of the continuum of humanity who will in the future also have common ancestors in the first humans ever to exist, the globe as it is is showing signs of becoming as a platform of existence again the home of all individuals without the boundaries set by nationality.

Nationalities in themselves posses the for now dangerous property of recognizing others as members of other coalitions. Because a person is conditioned since childhood to know that he or she is a member of a certain nationality does not erase that fact of being human, and being an existent sentient being with equal rights as the person living on the other side of the world. The ages of separation and culture wide specialization that has formed cultural history has done its markings all around the world, from which the now existing around two hundred and fifty different nationality are a statue of. But in a world as it is, with so vast variety when it comes to nationalities, the cultural background from which one is grown of conditions the individual to a certain set of beliefs, and observations of same phenomena have a vast variety of differences when it comes to parallel perceptions. As another result, the recognition of persons being a part of different coalition than the one where one originates from becomes existent, and thus as sensed as such, the neurological device that was used to recognize persons from other tribes and bands still causes humanity in its divided phase of existence to collide and compete with itself. The differences are in the representational sense of reality that is dynamic and alterable in content, but the fact remains that the price of history is still war. It would be the end of racism when the coalition detection a part of our neural circuitry could be defused in the level of the mass mind without any genetic brain surgery, but through ethical development.
